I friend of mine with a late model Jeep Grand Cherokee recently walked out to the parking lot after work to find a kind gentlemen running out from under his car half way through the process of cutting off his catalytic converter.

right, and the delicate way that this assortment have clearly not been unbolted, or even cut at opportune lengths, indicates to me that they are the result of something similar, although the disconnected plugs on the o2 sensors tells a slightly different tale

would not removal of the muffler bring higher results in regards to increased sound and increased power (through reduction of flow restrictions) whilst retaining tree hugging poison output levels?

Kind of hard to get under an Acura. Around here they choose trucks and SUV's as they are easier to work under.

Just sell them to a proper metal recycler. Cats have some crazy precious metals in them that are pretty valuable.

Muffler's just make the car deafening when you get anywhere near the gas. The cat delete allows for a little bit more of an aggressive tone (and more pops and crackles).

The advantage on my car is that the cats are part of the downpipe assembly, which is the first and most restrictive part of the exhaust system.
